Never too old to play dress ups!

Today I am meant to be studying for my Health Law exam which is on tomorrow but I am majorly procrastinating - lying in bed, browsing the net, visiting the local shops to pick up some grocery items, catching up with friends over the phone etc. But my worse source of procrastination is definitely my tendency to play dress ups. Not only does it entertain me for hours on end, but it always takes me hours to put all the random items of clothing, accessories & shoes back once I'm done. It starts off by me pulling one item out and then I start thinking "oh that would look really cool with that jacket". Then I try several different shoe combinations and it goes on and on. I come up with day looks, evening looks, casual looks and plain out OTT outfits that could never be worn outside the walls of my bedroom. Soon enough, the lounge, floor and bed are covered in crazy fur coats, sky high stilettos and bags. Time to stop and get back to work!

P.S. Special message to my  dear Law School buddy Amy who should also be studying today - I think we need to find an event we can wear flower head pieces to!

The Summer Uni Holidays are coming to an end...

Model: Anja Rubik
Photographer: Carter Smith
August 2006

As the holidays come to close and I look at this gorgeous shoot featuring Anja Rubik, I start to reflect on all the things I've done over the last 2 and half months or so. I must say its been rather good - nights out  & parties with friends, beautiful lunches out, coffee dates, bike rides, lots of Crust Vegetarian Pizza, some great movies (loved Avatar!), lawn bowls on Australia Day, walks on Hyams Beach and along the Cronulla Esplanade, chilling by the pool, successful shopping trips and so much more. One thing was missing though - I usually spend so much more time swimming at the beach! Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the best this summer. It was either raining, really humid or simply too hot to go to the beach without being burnt till a crisp. So I think this Sunday, my last day of holidays, needs to be spent ducking under those waves at the beach. Fingers crossed that the weather allows for it! :)

Obsessions of the Moment

Helena Christensen's Furry Friend
Vogue Paris

A dog!
This morning while I was having a lovely breakfast on South Cronulla Beach with a close friend,  while watching the local talent walk past, I couldn't help notice that nearly everyone seemed to have a cute dog in tow. I'm definitely not encouraging anyone to go out and get a dog without carefully considering whether they are committed to giving them to TLC that they deserve, but I think they definitely make great running/walking buddies. They are possibly better company than most boyfriends too - they are loyal, don't have other commitments like work or boys nights out, and they will love you even if you yell at them when you get angry or buy them the wrong food!

 Camilla & Marc Ida Pant

Jeffrey Campbell Pixie Zip Wedge

I've promised myself this year I will focus on saving more money and working with the clothes I have in my already over-flowing wardrobe. But who says I can't add a couple staple pieces to this upcoming winter season without saving at the same time? Over the last couple of weeks I've had my eyes set on these fantastic Camilla & Marc pants (I'm a big fan of super tight classic black pants) and have already started mentally composing possible ensembles with what I already have (keeping to my promise!). As for the boots, my love of 15cm heels has finally caught up with me and I've been restricted to wearing flat sandals and boots. I must say wearing flat shoes out has been rather great as it makes it easier to run around the city and of course there isn't that dreaded foot fatigue. I do miss the height though, so I'm thinking a pair of edgy platform wedges may be my new shoe of choice for the nights out once my foot heals :)

 Hotel Costes Vol. 12
Stephane Pompougnac

Whenever I feel like chilling out I always go straight to my Hotel Costes playlist. I had my favourite tracks playing for the first hour of my 21st birthday party last August while the guests were arriving. The music always makes me feel like I am somewhere incredibly chic and effortlessly cool. Hence, why I love playing it while in the pool - it's like creating my own Ivy Pool Club at home! The new volume is fantastic, with a number of tracks making it to my Hotel Costes favourites list.

A Tribute to McQueen's Fashion Kingdom

My Favourite McQueen Moments:

PUSSYCAT, PUSSYCAT, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
I'VE BEEN TO LONDON TO VISIT MCQUEEN.
PUSSYCAT, PUSSYCAT, WHAT DID YOU THERE?
I BOUGHT THE COLLECTION AND KISSED LOTS OF AIR.

Pink & Green Skull Print Scarf

Kingdom Perfume by McQueen

Over the years I've always found Alexander McQueen's collections rather fascinating - Antlers on the model's heads, tartan prints, tulle skirts and royal inspired outfits. He really was and always will be British Fashion royalty.

Blush Beauty

Jessica Stam
Nina Ricci Spring Summer Campaign 2010

Tom Ford Eyewear

Tom Ford is synonymous with overly provocative advertising for his products but somehow he manages to always keep them classically glamourous. I love the colour (not quite blonde, not quite brown) and the styling of the hair on the female model. The bold eye makeup is also great with the natural pink lips. The campaign screams glamazon meets geek chic! Absolutely fabulous :)

Seeing these pictures of Blumarine's perfect orange and magenta dresses reminds me to make an effort to wear some of those crazy kaftans in my wardrobe. Perfect in the daytime with sandals or at night with a pair of skyscraper stilettos!

Isabeli Fontana in Vogue Brazil

Vogue Brazil March 2010
Fashion Gone Rogue

I know there's nothing particularly original behind the idea of this shoot - the celebrity being chased by paparazzi has been done so many times before. In saying that, I think the styling in this shoot is great, especially considering that the outfits are very much wearable, unlike most Vogue editorials. I don't think fashion has to be realistic by any means, particularly not in magazines or on the catwalk but every once in a while it is great to see a casual shoot with everyday pieces - loose t-shirts, black trousers & blazers and funky casual accessories. Not to mention that the shoot features beauty Isabeli Fontana who has a great bone structure and that girl-next-door appeal.

Hospital Chic

I apologise for the lack of posts lately. I'm currently doing Uni Summer School studying Health Law and I need to pay attention in class, therefore I need to restrict myself to minimal Facebooking, blogging and magazine reading, and need to concentrate my efforts on studying for the upcoming exams. Although, I'm not giving up a few nights out and coffee dates! :)

I thought this pic was appropriate to my current studies:

If nursing was as glamourous as this, maybe I would consider it!
